“Like clay in the hand of the potter, so are you in my hand…” - Jeremiah 18:6
Devotional: Luke 4:38-44
Dear Reader,
“The Lord bless you and keep you; The Lord make His face shine on you,
And be gracious to you; The Lord lift up His countenance on you And give you peace.’”
Luke was a physician by trade, and in his letter to the early church, Paul referred to him as the “beloved physician.” Luke wrote the Book of Acts, and the gospel named after him. His writings, inspired by the Holy Spirit, emphasize healing on all levels: physical, emotional, and spiritual. Luke uses the word, heal, more in the Gospel of Luke than in any other book in the Bible.
Walking long enough in this world after Eden, everyone becomes spiritually ill, some of us to a greater extent. Man has an unbalanced desire for pleasure, possessions, and power. Sin is destructive and wreaks havoc on the human heart and relationships.
Healing the Body, Heal the Soul (Luke 4:38-44)
Luke helps us see the care of the Savior, who the Psalmist writes, “heals our diseases”. Isaiah and Matthew affirm, the Lord “takes up our infirmities”. The hands that created the universe casts out a fever at Simon Peter’s home. Word spreads quickly, a healer is in town. The entire town of Capernaum brought all the sick to the healing hands of Jesus. Luke in his writing places an emphasis on those ‘healing hands’ to the body and the soul.
“At sunset, the people brought to Jesus all who had various kinds of sickness, and laying his hands on each one, he healed them.” – Luke 4:40
“When Jesus came, they told him of her (Simon’s Mother-In-Law). Make a practice of telling the Lord about all your family concerns. Bring sicknesses and other troubles to (Jesus) your best friend. Do it at family prayer but do it also at your bedside alone.” - Charles Spurgeon.

Always amazed by this passage, all night healing service, then Jesus withdrew from the crowds. Liked the emphasis on “Dr Luke.”
Thanks for the restack
