Dear Reader,
May “The Lord bless you, and keep you; The Lord make His face shine on you,
And be gracious to you; The Lord lift up His countenance on you, And give you peace.’” (Numbers 6:24-26).
Healing the Broken (Luke 4:31-37)
His methods are not ours and his thoughts are not ours[1]. His heart was with the broken and the sick. Some physicians have an expertise; Jesus’ specialty is broken things. What has you burdened? What concern do you have that only He knows? Is something broken that needs His skillful touch?
Comforting the Downcast in Capernaum.
Jesus left his hometown of Nazareth to go fishing for lost sinners. His next destination was fifty miles northeast to Capernaum, a small fishing town on the Sea of Galilee. It is in Capernaum that he would find Andrew, Peter, James, and John. But before he calls for the disciples to follow him, he aims to comfort the downcast. The town of Capernaum means “comfort”, and the Comforter goes for a visit.
Christ knows your anxiety and your burdens, take it to him in prayer.
“Have we trials and temptations?
Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged,
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a friend so faithful
Who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness,
Take it to the Lord in prayer.”
- What A Friend We Have In Jesus lyrics by Joseph Scriven (1820-1886).

Authority to Heal and to Rebuke
“And they were all amazed and said to one another, What is this word? For with authority and power he commands the unclean spirits, and they come out!” – Luke 4:36
Jesus is Sovereign over all Creation and has authority to heal and rebuke. How can the church today prioritize broken people through prayer and service to others? How has your local church demonstrated sacrificial service to you or others in a time of need? Does your church practice James 5:13-20 healing? What are some practical things you can do to minister to broken people? In what ways should believers in Christ practice correction and peacemaking with others while being different that the world?
“But if it's true, You use broken things, Then here I am Lord, I'm all Yours”
Matthew West, Broken Things
