My church is going through the Book of James this summer. James is a practical book, one friend called it the Proverbs of the New Testament. Above is my homiletic outline of James 1.
In James 1, faith and wisdom are described as essential in the trials and temptations of life. Both are gifts (1st Corinthians 12:7-11, Ephesians 2:8, James 1:17) and rewards (Proverbs 2:6, Hebrews 11:6) from God that take practical life experiences to grow and develop. The unnatural part of faith and wisdom it requires asking and humility, something a prideful person does not like. “A proud man is always looking down on things and people: and, of course, as long as you are looking down, you cannot see something that is above you.” - CS Lewis.
How have trials in life developed your faith and wisdom?
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.” - Proverbs 1:7.
“And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” - Hebrews 11:6
Love the quote from CS Lewis ❤️🙏
“A proud man is always looking down on things and people: and, of course, as long as you are looking down, you cannot see something that is above you.” - CS Lewis.
Good stuff brother!
